On Friday, Oct. 18th we will celebrate our poetry writing by having a poetry cafe in class. Parents, you are invited to attend if you are able. Students will be reading their poems aloud and are also invited to bring portable instruments, like a guitar, or they can also sing.
Here are some important dates for this upcoming week:
Thursday, Oct. 10th: cross country meet at Ashbridges Bay
Friday, Oct. 11th: PA day
Monday, Oct. 14th: Thanksgiving
Thursday, Oct. 17th: homework due
Friday, Oct. 18th: rm 11 poetry cafe 9:20-11:25
Friday, Oct. 18th: picture day
This week's homework will go out today, Wednesday, and will be due back on the usual day, next Thursday.
The homework for this week is as follows:
Daily:
- Do 10 minutes of typing practice per day. Use the link on the blog, or a different program if preferred.
- Read independently for at least 20 minutes a day. This is like brushing your teeth: you must fit it into your daily schedule!
- Practice the 6 times tables and review 3, 4 and 5 if they are not yet automatic.
Divide up the following work during the week:
- Complete the cursive sheets
- Complete the division math work.
- Choose 4 poems from your language folder that you feel are your best work. Revise and edit them, using the method that we learned in class. In particular, pay attention to spelling. Final published poems are to be typed out or hand written on plain white paper. You language folder and published poems will be collected on Thursday. Make sure to leave your rough drafts in your folder because I want to see your complete body of work.
- Finish your compare and contrast paragraph on Terry Fox and Craig Keilburger if you haven't handed it in yet.
- Practice reading your poem(s) with expression for our poetry cafe next Friday!
Best,
Bronwyn Davidson
